About
Before coming to Harvard, Daniel “Dae” Hieu Thuan Bui contributed to immigrant child welfare research at UC Berkeley and later joined the city of Santa Cruz, where he supported language access and digital service initiatives.
Born in Oakland to Vietnamese refugees, Daniel draws on his lived experience to inform his work with historically marginalized communities. He is especially interested in improving municipal service delivery for immigrant families, and reimagining city data systems to better capture neighborhood-level equity concerns.
Outside of work, Daniel enjoys exploring neighborhood food spots, cooking, and spending time with family in the Bay Area. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from UC Berkeley and a Master in Education Policy and Analysis from Harvard.
Initial Fellowship Focus: The fellow, along with the city’s leadership team, will gain a clear understanding of inequities in Sunnyvale, particularly in city service delivery, and actively use these insights to take concrete steps towards addressing them.
