Janeen Green

Originally from North Lauderdale, Florida, Janeen Green traces her fascination with storytelling, ethics, and the ways people make meaning through lived experience to her grandmother, whose stories about her life in Jamaica first revealed the power of narrative to shape positionality and resilience. Ms. Green double-majored in religion and humanities at Florida State University, where she researched Black women’s representation in European art and was selected as the College of Arts and Sciences 2023 Humanitarian of the Year. She published a senior thesis that examined how Arab American Muslim women in Dearborn, Michigan cultivate a process of discerning the relative priority they give to Islam, feminism, and American culture, and how they negotiate these priorities within their families and communities.

In May 2026, Ms. Green graduated from Harvard Divinity School (HDS) with a Master in Theological Studies, concentrating in religion, ethics, and politics. There, she served as a research assistant for the Black and Jewish Leadership Initiative, interned with CAIR-Florida, co-founded and co-led HDS’s first Latine and Caribbean Student Association, and launched the school’s first Open Mic Night series. Her research, leadership, and professional experiences at HDS deepened her commitment to translating scholarship into public service and motivated her to apply for the Bloomberg Harvard City Hall Fellowship. She is excited to apply her training in ethics, religious literacy, and communication while learning alongside city leaders and residents to improve people’s everyday experiences with local government.

Initial Fellowship Focus: The fellow will help the city use data and automation to answer resident requests more quickly, reduce employee burnout, and establish systems and routines for mining 1PSL data to improve operations proactively.
